A bit about me ...
As an Italian-American mother of 3, I am passionate about family and food. Many of my art pieces boast fresh fruits and family recipes. A New Yorker by birth but raised from a young age in Florida, I have a great appreciation for sunshine. Some of my favorite things are gardening, cooking, being on the water and painting. My recipe art and warm balmy landscapes reflect my passions.
Art has never left my side (at least not for long). Creating things brought me much joy growing up and still does. After graduating from The Ohio State University in 1997 with a degree in visual communication, I began working as a designer for The Orlando Sentinel. Since that time I have served professionally as an artist, designer and illustrator for clients both large and small. Happily I've won a few awards along the way. I attribute this to hard work and God's blessing. I teach adults and highschoolers year round as well as hosting an annual summer art camp for elementary aged children at a local venue. When teaching and collaborating on projects, I love learning about people's hopes, histories and styles. I enjoy helping people relax and learn skills and techniques that enable them to create without fear.
Watercolors are my absolute favorite medium. There is just something spectacular about sitting down with that sheet of stiff, white, empty paper and watching it transform into something meaningful. Many times when I paint or design I have had in imagery in my head just waiting its turn to be put on paper. I start by planning edges and values and penciling in my subject matter first. Having the outline out of the way allows me to relax and enjoy the painting and design process more freely.
One of my favorite aspects of watercolor is letting the colors intermingle on the paper within the water yielding surprising and often unexpected results. Watercolors are also a great medium for artists with children because they lend themselves to being interrupted! Taking those drying breaks in between layers of color truly does yield better, fresher looking results.
My main inspirations comes from things that I love and care about. Have a look at a few of my collection of Culinary Art, Water's Edge or my local paintings of Oviedo and Florida.
