Living here in Oviedo, Florida for 16 years has allowed me to really explore this little town. We all know about the chickens and roosters that you encounter, but every once in a while you get a glimpse of another beautiful creature.
With three kids at three different schools, carpooling with other families is my saving grace! This week while driving a van full of middle schoolers behind the downtown fire station we saw a peacock. He was perched on the old Station Street antique shop steps. I didn't give it much notice, until a young man I take to school screamed, "A Peacock!" He whipped out his phone and started snapping photos. This young guy had recently moved to Oviedo from New York. We had so much fun seeing him enjoy what to him was a unique site. The entire scene truly inspired me to capture our local character on paper. It also reminded me how relative amazing moments can be. When I was studying at Ohio State University, I remembered having the same reaction to seeing chipmunks. Squirrels were the usual view, but chipmunks were something I had only scene in books and cartoons. Whenever I walked to campus seeing them scurrying around in the snow always made me smile. Keep noticing the cool stuff you see around you every day. It's in the every day scenes that God's goodness can be stunning! I will be out at the Taste of Oviedo event this Saturday, March 14th from 10am to 6pm. My booth will be next to the one selling the posters. Hope you can come out and say hello. |
