A few weeks ago, my husband was telling me that Publix was considering no longer giving away free cold cut slices after they cut your meat/cheese at the deli counter. Apparently, there was such an outcry from the customers that they decided to bring it back! See the full story here... The last blog post that I wrote was all about these little special touches. My mind keeps lingering on how the businesses that survive and thrive do so in part because of their commitment and attention to the details. When the Orange Door started renovating a charming but dilapidated house in Oviedo, I was hopeful. Hopeful that someone cared about a historic home and wanted to build something special in its place. They took the time and money to restore it and convert it into a commercial space. Kerry Kisling of the Orange Door made it happen. As she is filling her boutique up with wonderful and artsy gift items, she endeavored to create a culinary room! As you know, that is my weak spot. She asked if I would be interested in collaborating with her by painting a wall in that room. I'm typically not a big fan of painting murals, but she had me at, "culinary room". Last week I was welcomed into her space. As I worked, we drank coffee, and got to know each other. I also met her wonderful assistant named Michelle. Kerry and I created something lovely together. Something that I would consider similar to a deli sample turkey slice ... a special touch. This lady has non-stop energy and works fast! I know she's been busy filling up those shelves with food related gifts and kitchen essentials. Go check it out when you get the chance, and tell them that your mutual artist friend sent ya.
