If we do this, I'd love to incorporate the book by: Julia Cameron called, The Artist's Way. It is a jewel of a book that I read about 5 summer's ago with the ladies from our advanced art class. We met each week in one an-other's homes to sip coffee, nibble something and discuss art and how afraid we are to freely make it : ) It's an extremely vulnerable process you know!
The book isn't just about visual artists though. It's about what stops us from creating anything that you love. This includes; writing, dance, screen plays, musical composition... you name it. The author leads you through numerous exercises helping you to understand your road blocks (whether they be actual or mental) and how to break free from being stuck in them. I promote the book every chance that I get because it was so freeing and confirming to me.
Besides being just plain fun, meeting weekly as a group helps you to stay on track, keep reading and doing the exercises. Generally speaking, unless you are extremely self motivated, accountability is key!
I'm curious if any of you would be interested in taking a 4 week class with me this July and sharing 1 hour of free studio-creating time and 1 hour of book discussion...
Whether I am painting custom artwork, creating a water colored logo for a client, or teaching art students, I hope to refresh and inspire others with my work. Read more ...
