If there is one thing I am not, it is a separatist. In fact, this particular part of my personality tends to drive my family bananas! Not only do I let my food intermingle on my plate, my love of blending causes me to do things like use my big kitchen as a place to cook, eat and paint, and generally layer up everything I love into big mish-mashes. The idea of America being a "melting pot" makes me happy. Some may call it A.D.D. but even in the way I manage my time I like to mix activities. Playing in the yard, why not pick a few weeds while I'm at it? Purging things that we don't use, let's organize that bookshelf! You get the idea. I'm sure I would make myself dizzy if I could step back and watch my movements on film. Naturally, a favorite thing to blend in my life is people. I love being with friends from different areas of my life all in one place and seeing the cross-over! This person that I know from church also knew a friend from my child's school, etc… Those "small world" moments always constitute a win in my book. Last year, after watching this video, I incorporated art gratitude journals into my class curriculums. We gobbled it up! As I was reflecting and praying over the upcoming year this morning, I had the thought that I'd like to try incorporating more "cross-over" into my classes. The idea of weaving gratitude into creating art struck me as something to perhaps build a class around. I'm still finalizing the details of this idea, but so far it's going to look like this: Works of Thanks
Get busy creating art that focusses on what you are thankful for in a relaxed learning environment. A mixture of in-class activity and instruction. Students will learn foundational art theory and explore how to compose their paintings, make decisions about the placement of objects, learn color theory, value, thumbnail sketches, perspective, skin tones, lighting, shade and shadow and more. Each week there will have a small amount of homework to complete the assignments that were started in class. Students will bring their pieces back to share and discuss at the next class. Many take my courses because they have always loved art and want to explore it further. Some do because it's fun to paint with a group and it gets you back in the habit of creating! Others because they know a little about using their passion for drawing or painting but want to invest in some additional skills. Whatever your motivation, come join us on January 13. Register here online or call Caryn at 407-421-3198 * Metro Church has offered their children's church classes to anyone enrolled in the art class. If you have young ones, feel free to bring them because they will be well cared for. This is a great opportunity for parents of young children who have found it hard to make time to create!
